Sigh

4/9/2006 | by Jk

I decided to upgrade my back end (heh, back end) this weekend. I’d been putting it off due to the inevitability that IE would manage to fuck the site up somehow. Lo and behold. As usual it works fine in Firefox (cough).

Anyway, I’m working on it, I’ll try to fix it when I have a few minutes, but don’t have the requisite HOURS to deal with it at the moment.

Fixed it. Guess what it was. . . .just guess. Yeah, a motherf$%*&#$% space!!!! One little space and IE chokes. I wish it would just choke on it and die next time. Hours of my life gone. Sigh.

Apologies.

TekMonki BeatBox

3/20/2006 | by Jk

Well, the fewchar called and they said there’s the Flash thingie that you can use to do things like play music on your website. Now I’ve never been one to mess with the fewchar, so I did a bit of diggin’ and found out that indeed, the fewchar does not lie.

So to that end, I went out and got myself one. Now I am the fewchar. Or I’m the fewchar now. Somethin’. Shrug.

Anyway, the beatbox is available under the “musik” menu, on the individual track pages, or, wait for it . . .

Right Here (new window)

I’ve updated the tracks to play IN their respective spots. The other player was becoming too troublesome and was down too much.

‘Cos I got you like that, that’s just how I roll.

P.s. If you’ve not yet heard Saudade, now’s your chance.

Manhattan From The Queensboro Bridge

7/12/2005 | by Jk

Manhattan From The Queensboro Bridge - July 2005

Manhattan From The Queensboro Bridge - July 2005.

The trains coming from Queens were all messed up today. First it was a fire on the tracks at Queensboro Plaza or something. Then, after waiting for that to be taken care of, and getting impatient, I figured I could walk to another station and started hoofin’ it. On the way I saw a semi’s trailer wedged under the train track overpass (oops, not enough clearance buddy?) about a quarter mile on. As if that wasn’t enough, then there was another fire going on right next to the train station (don’t think it was related), so I said screw it and started walking, ending up walking several miles from my house over to Madison Ave.

Nice view, but too hot for that shit!! Anyway, this is the one good pic I got from it.

Check the trek. Looooong way in this weather.

Central Park, Unknown - July 2005.

Not sure what this area is called, but just to the right is a little restaurant type place on the water, and a dock with boats you can rent. I think people know it from Sex and The City. That’s where babies come from.

Er, somethin’.

Truly Amazing . . .

3/8/2005 | by Jk

Today started out raining, a bit cold. Ahh, March in NYC. I figured it was no big deal since yesterday almost felt like spring. Riiiight?

Then it turned to snow. Then it turned to freezing ass wind and frozen sidewalks by the afternoon. Good times.

Then. . . I saw this on the train ride home.

Sunset 1 Sunset 2 Sunset 3

These pics don’t even do it justice. The city looked like it was on fire or full of the magic you only hear about in fairy tales. The sun streaming through the upper windows of the Empire State Building (the big tall one with the spire) and other skyscrapers, just an ethereal glow about the whole place . . so fuckin’ beautiful. The last time I saw a sunset like this was outside Seattle near Snoqualmie. . . years ago.

By the way, this is my view to and from Queens, every day (sans sunset usually). I love it. One of the reasons I put up with all the ‘bad’ here, like this horrible weather. This made it all worth it, if only for a few minutes.

Oh Brrrr!

FAQ:

  • Yes, there’s snow.
  • Yeah, a lot of it.
  • Yup, it’s cold.
  • Yes, it’s hilarious that it’s sunny and mildly warm where you are. No, really. Comedy gold right there.
  • Yes, I got out and shoveled it. I even had that “getting-back-to-nature-gee-I-remember this-from-when-I-was-a-kid” experience. . . just a few minutes ago no less.
  • I’m a better person for it. I feel it inside my very core.
  • Yeah, could just be frostbite. . .

Long Time . . .

1/17/2005 | by Jk

Long time no update. Though, as you’ve probably noticed I’m working on the layout (again) . . . ‘cos let’s face it, this one sucks (coughmenuandboringashellcough). A lot has gone on in the past month and few weeks for me that has got my priorities changed a bit. Some good, some bad, some indifferent. Seems like a lot of people I know . . .this has been a bit of a “new leaf” year for them. Life is funny like that, no? Anyway, I’ll be working on it as time allows.

You see things in life, and you’d be surprised what you see. Life, your whole life, is changes. You go through changes in your life. . . One second you’ve got it made, next second you’re down in the dumps. And it goes back and forth throughout your whole lifetime. One second you’ve got the most beautiful girl in the world, next second you don’t even have a girlfriend no more. And it goes back and forth and back and forth, you know? And this is life man, it’s changes. This is what you gotta go through throughout your whole lifetime

Got a few things coming up on the music front . . .but nothing to report just yet. I’ll keep ya posted.

Hope you’re having a good new year and had yourself some happy holidaze.

Yet More Reason 3.0

| by Jk

The Props have finally posted detailed info and mp3 examples of Reason 3.0 on their homepage. Go check it out.

Or if you’re lazy . . .

The Combinator: It’s not an effect unit. It’s not a synth. It sure isn’t a sampler. It’s… all of it. And more. The all new Combinator is a sophisticated device that allows you to build elaborate chains of Reason units - instruments, effects, pattern sequencers, you name it - and save as Combi patches.

The MClass Mastering Suite: Want big, tight, loud sounding tracks? Need extra stereo width, increased clarity, punchier bass? Say hello to MClass, the new mastering suite in Reason 3.0. MClass brings you four separate pro level mastering units designed to add power, presence and an overall professional feel to your Reason mixes.

3.0 Soundbank: Reason’s sound palette is getting bigger, better, wider and wilder. The new sound bank in Reason 3.0 adds huge quantities of instruments, sounds and patches to Reason’s already massive library. Focusing on carefully sampled musical instruments and useful Combinator setups rather than loops and beats, the new soundbank takes a more playable, more performance- friendly direction.

Line Mixer 6:2: Line mixing, Combi mixing or regular submixing? Leave it to Line Mixer 6:2

Line Mixer 6:2 is a simple but effective 6-channel stereo line mixer. Built primarily for use in the Combinator, the Line Mixer 6:2 handles basic mixing and panning of Combi devices, but can of course be inserted anywhere in Reason: use it for submixing large drum kits, or to add extra mixer channels when Reason’s main mixer is starting to fill up. Each of the six channels feature level and pan controls, mute and solo buttons plus an AUX send level control. Need more sends? Extra channels? Just create another Line Mixer.

Also:

  • Record automation on multiple tracks.
  • Copy automation between lanes and tracks in the sequencer.
  • New and improved Mute and Solo features in sequencer.
  • Faster loading of samples. Sample playing devices now load five times faster.
  • Improved sample playback timing and quality.

I, for one, welcome our new Swedish digital overlords.

Reason 3.0 Update . . .

11/25/2004 | by Jk

From Sound On Sound:

(note: The SOS article has since been pulled. As I can’t know why, I will leave this here unless I receive notice otherwise.)

The first concrete details of next major update to Propellerhead’s Reason software have been revealed.

And the word is that version 3 will contain several new features designed with live performance in mind. For example, the new Combinator module (pictured here) allows users to consruct chains of Reason instrument, effects and sequencer modules and save them as a combi patch. Users can thereby recall complex setups instantly.

Reason 3.0 Announced . . .

11/24/2004 | by Jk

The Propellerheads have announced the start of beta testing for Reason 3.0 today after spending the last week teasing their users with a treasure hunt of sorts in the form of sliced up images of one of the new devices scattered all over their website in non-obvious places. Wow. That, is a run-on.

db troubles . . .

10/28/2004 | by Jk

So that was fun

10/23/2004 | by Jk

After a lot of evaluation, I’ve decided to redo the site. Again.

The back-end I was using was just turning up too many problems for me in the end that started turning into roadblocks instead of fun challenges.

So we’re back to boring bland basics until I get this thang under my thumb.

Navigation is on the right.

Added a playlist . . .

10/20/2004 | by Jk

For extra geek/dweeb cred, I added a playlist that lists whatever song that I’m currently listening to and posts it in real time.

It still needs some formatting so it fits into the layout a little better, but there it is. If you click on the artist/song link it will take you to Froogle (Google’s shopping site) so you can find any and all albums that contain the track in question, and sometimes some digital downloads as well.

9/20/2004 | by Jk

(ariiiiise, chicken!)

TekMonki Witch Doctor Dot Com is being restyled at the moment as you’ll probably surmise by the “almost-the-same-but-definitely-not” colour scheme, the freaky deaky layout of certain things at any given time, and other such monki-shines. I was trying to edit this elsewhere before going live, but I irreversibly screwed up some code so I was forced to switch over now instead of . . . .well, not now.

Which is nice.

And stuff. :whatever:
