Reality

9/18/2005 | by Jk

You keep calling but I’m not at home
To give me your explanation
I’m not waiting by the telephone
With a feeling of frustration
I always thought that if you understood
You’d clean up this mess and you’d do me some good

I don’t need you anymore
I’m not the man you’re looking for

Can’t you see there’s nothing in your head
And your body’s on vacation
I keep hearing what I never said
You got me in your conversation
Now it’s too late and you get what you see
I don’t like this hatred, it just isn’t me

“If I have one message to give to the secular American people, it’s that the world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don’t know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same.”

Guilt Is A Useless Emotion

4/20/2005 | by Jk

Just another day in the week,
Waiting for an opportunity
To step in front of me.

Maybe I’m losing my mind.
Searching for another place
In another time.

Real love can’t be bought
It is wild and can’t be caught.
Real love can’t be sold
It’s another colour than gold.

Standing on top of the world
thinking of the joy you bring
when you do that thing to me.

You sure know a lot for a girl
You could bring the good times back
Get me on the track.

Real love can’t be bought
It is wild and can’t be caught.
Real love can’t be sold
It’s another colour than gold.

(I need your love)
I just wanna buy it
(I need your love)
Will you help me find it
(I want your love)
How can you deny it
(I need your love)
You just gotta try it
(I want you now)

Shallow Grave

12/8/2004 | by Jk

I’m not ashamed, I’ve known love, I’ve known rejection. I’m not afraid to declare my feelings. Take trust for instance, or friendship. These are the important things in life, these are the things that matter, that help you on your way.

If you can’t trust your friends well what then?

What then?

Reason 3.0 Update . . .

11/25/2004 | by Jk

From Sound On Sound:

(note: The SOS article has since been pulled. As I can’t know why, I will leave this here unless I receive notice otherwise.)

The first concrete details of next major update to Propellerhead’s Reason software have been revealed.

And the word is that version 3 will contain several new features designed with live performance in mind. For example, the new Combinator module (pictured here) allows users to consruct chains of Reason instrument, effects and sequencer modules and save them as a combi patch. Users can thereby recall complex setups instantly.

The Propellerheads have announced the start of beta testing for Reason 3.0 today after spending the last week teasing their users with a treasure hunt of sorts in the form of sliced up images of one of the new devices scattered all over their website in non-obvious places. Wow. That, is a run-on.

Love Will Tear Us Apart

11/12/2004 | by Jk

When the routine bites hard
and ambitions are low
And the resentment rides high
but emotions won’t grow
And we’re changing our ways,
taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again (4)

Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
our respect run so dry?
Yet there’s still this appeal
That we’ve kept through
our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again (4)

Do you cry out in your sleep
All my failings exposed?
Get a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Is it something so good
Just can’t function no more?
When love, love will tear us apart again (4)

Some thoughts on music and downloading

10/26/2004 | by Jk

As I’m sure you’re aware, the past couple years have brought some unprecedented changes to the world we live in. Technologically speaking, we now have the means to instantly enjoy music like never before. Pop on a P2P, download to your heart’s content, put it in your iPod, and off you go. On the one hand this is a great convenience, on the other it raises some humongous issues regarding the music industry, and copyright in general.

For many decades the music industry has kept a stranglehold on the distribution of music. Price fixing, collusion, payola, suing their customers, the same “tried-and-true” music year in/year out, on and on. This translates to them dictating how you hear and enjoy music. I think it’s a fairly straightforward statement to say that listening to music is a highly personal experience. With the invention and rapid worldwide acceptance of Sony’s “Walkman”, and now Apple’s “iPod”, the evidence is pretty clear that people enjoy their music not only in a group setting, but also on a very personal level. Songs speak to eveyone individually in their own different way. That’s the ineffable beauty and power of music. As soon as it leaves the creator’s grasp and ventures out into the world, it takes on a life of it’s own. Even what you hear on this site will most likely mean something entirely different to you than it does to me now or when I wrote it. I think that’s great. (more…)

Got Drugs?

10/23/2004 | by Jk

Is it just me or have prescription drug advertisements exploded on US television in the past year or so? I’m not much of a TV watcher really, and I’m sure they’ve been creeping in for a few years now, but I have it on now and again to catch this or that and it seems like there’s a drug for everything.

I’m not quite sure what to make of it to be honest. in some ways it seems good, in some ways it doesn’t. The list of “possible side effects may include . . .” at the end of them borders on comical though. Seems like they’re often rushed to market with a “well, they can get by with this” kind of attitude.

Happy Time Listening 100percent!

10/9/2004 | by Jk

Lately it has to be Sasha’s “Involver“. I’m not much of a Sasha fan, particularly his previous trance offerings, but this one is mixed 2 smooth. More “songs” than just dance music, which is not a bad thing, but they just flow in that purrrfect way that’s hard to find.

Standout track on it for me has to be the The Youngsters’ “Smile“. I don’t think it’s a remix that’s been released before, it was most likely done “special” for this album. Anyway, it has this great segue from mellow bliss into where it drops this beat/bassline combo hard on dat ass. The journey is even better if you let it build all the way up to that point from the very beginning of the CD. Like I said, it’s got tha flow. Now you know.

Highly recommend it. All of it. Not to be missed. (more…)

Cool Site Of The Day . . .

| by Jk

I came across a site that explains why using IE may be hazardous to your health. Some quotes:

The US Government has sent out a warning out to internet users through its Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), pleading users to stop using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
[A]ll-conquering Internet Explorer has been stuck in the mud for the past year, as Microsoft stopped delivering new versions. The company now rolls out only an occasional fix as part of its Windows updates. Gates and company won the browser war, so why keep fighting it? The problem is that hackers continue to find and exploit security holes in Explorer.
Meanwhile, security researchers are reporting a new vulnerability in SP2 that could allow a malicious Web site to deposit an attack program on a user’s system. The attack utilizes Internet Explorer’s drag-and-drop features and the Windows “shell folders” to copy an executable from a malicious Web site to a user’s startup folder, from which it would execute the next time the user logged on.

And as if that’s not good enough reason to check this site out, you can’t go wrong with a name like BrowseHappy

New UK copyright license to enable “remix culture”

10/5/2004 | by Jk

From Reuters News

LONDON (Reuters) - A new flexible form of copyright for creative material is set to launch in Britain next month, at a time when “remix culture” is gaining in popularity despite the fact it is often illegal.

Creative Commons, a U.S. based non-profit foundation, has created a copyright licence that lets musicians and authors decide what limits to put on their creations — enabling DJs, for example, to remix music legally.
